TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. — Members of Coast Guard Station Tybee Island held a ceremony at the station Tuesday to recognize the arrival of their newest response boat.
Along with the Station Tybee Island crew, members from Coast Guard Sector Charleston, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the mayor of Savannah, Ga., the pro tempore mayor of Tybee and representatives from local agencies attended the ceremony.
Following the official proceedings, guests were invited to go aboard the Response Boat-Medium and view the new vessel.

Station Tybee Island’s new RB-M is meant to replace the 1970’s era 41-foot Utility Boat that is currently assigned to the station. The RB-M is equipped with state-of-the-art marine technology, including all-aluminum construction, better crew comfort, and twin jet propulsion. The RB-M is faster than the Utility Boat, capable of operating in severe conditions, such as high seas, and has self-righting ability.
Its increased capabilities will enable the Coast Guard to respond to missions more effectively within the coastal Georgia and South Carolina region.
