MILWAUKEE — Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Two Rivers, Wis., trained with firefighters from the Manitowac Fire Department during joint-agency ice rescue training held in Manitowac, Wednesday.
Station Two Rivers and the Manitowoc Fire Department teamed up for what will be ongoing ice rescue training.
“This is the first of many training days with the local fire departments,” said Petty Officer 1st Class William Blair, executive petty officer at Station Two Rivers. “So far, we have two more dates planned with Manitowoc Fire Department and three dates with the Two Rivers Fire Department, and we are still working on dates with the Kewaunee Fire Department.”
Station personnel are teaming up with the local fire departments to conduct an ice safety program with local elementary schools, the first scheduled to take place Monday at Koenig Elementary School in Two Rivers. Members from the Coast Guard station and the fire department will team up to talk about ice safety measures, what to do and who to call in case of an ice related emergency.
