Coast Guard Station Toledo to hold change-of-command ceremony

TOLEDO, Ohio – U.S. Coast Guard Station Toledo, Ohio, is scheduled to hold a change-of-command ceremony 10 a.m. Friday at Bayview Park.

During the ceremony, Master Chief Petty Officer Aaron Zimmer will transfer command to Chief Petty Officer Jay Galazin.

Capt. Jeff Ogden, commander of Coast Guard Sector Detroit, will preside over the ceremony.

Zimmer is departing to serve as officer-in-charge of Coast Guard Cutter Cormorant, homeported in Ft. Pierce, Fla. Galazin is reporting from Coast Guard Station New Orleans, where he served as the executive petty officer.

The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition and deeply rooted in Coast Guard and Naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command. The ceremony is attended by all members of the unit so they all witness the transfer of leadership.
