Coast Guard Station South Padre Island responds to report of person in the water

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Coast Guard Station South Padre Island responded to the report of a person in the water in the vicinity of the mouth of the Rio Grande River, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call at approximately 4:40 p.m. from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office reporting a person in the water.

A 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement Boat and crew was launched from Coast Guard Station South Padre Island. The SPC-LE and crew arrived on scene and recovered the victim from the water.

The victim was reported to be a male in his mid-30s of Hispanic decent. The man was transported to Coast Guard Station South Padre Island to awaiting EMS.

The condition of the man is unknown.
