CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Coast Guard rescued a missing diver 10 miles off the coast of South Padre Island Saturday afternoon.
The Coast Guard Station South Padre Island received a call at noon that a 36-year old diver was missing from a commercial diving boat.
The Coast Guard Station South Padre launched two 33-foot Special Purpose Craft – Law Enforcement boat crews, and Air Station Corpus Christi launched a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and a HU-25 Falcon rescue crews to search for the missing diver.
At approximately 1:50 p.m. the helicopter located the diver after he surfaced approximately three miles from his original dive site.
A small boat crew picked up the diver and returned to Coast Guard Station South Padre Island where he was transferred to awaiting EMS.
The diver was reportedly diving with friends on a rig when he became disoriented and drifted underwater with the current. The boat, Diver 1, deployed their master diver to search for the man before calling the Coast Guard.
