BOSTON— Coast Guard Station Scituate conducted its annual closure Monday and is tentatively set to reopen on May 22, 2017.
With Station Situate closed for the year, the crews return to Coast Guard Station Point Allerton in Hull, their home duty station.
Most cases in the area of Scituate occur between the months of May and September. Due to this reduced boat traffic the station closes during the winter.
Coast Guard Station Scituate was established in 1936. At its peak staffing, it accommodated a crew of about 40 and operated a combination of up to three standard and non-standard boats. Today, the station is staffed with two ready crews using a 29-foot rescue boat.
