Coast Guard Station Sand Key medevacs man from cruise ship 12 miles west of Port Richey, Fla.

St. Petersburg, Fla. — A 55-year-old man was medevaced by the Coast Guard and local EMS from a cruise ship 12 miles west of Port Richey, Florida, Friday.

Rescued was Armand Rane.

A crewmember, from the Royal Casino 1 cruise ship, contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, stating Rane, a passenger aboard the cruise, was experiencing low blood sugar symptoms and chest pains.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon was notified and recommended the man be medevaced.

A 45-foot Response-Boat Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Sand Key, Florida, with Tarpon Springs, Florida, Fire and Rescue EMS personnel aboard, arrived on scene and medevaced Rane. He was then transferred to a Tarpon Springs Fire and Rescue marine unit at Aclote Key, Florida, for further medical treatment.
