CLEVELAND — The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated an 88-year-old woman from the cruise ship Clelia II, which was anchored off the Port of Rochester, N.Y., Friday morning, June 18, 2010.
Coast Guard Station Rochester was notified at about 7 a.m. that the passenger was reportedly suffering heart attack symptoms and launched a rescue crew aboard a 25-foot Response Boat-Small (RB-S) immediately.
The RB-S crew arrived on scene and brought the passenger onboard.
“The passenger was conscious and was able to walk down the cruise ship’s gangway to the response boat,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Nicholas Narruhn, a coxswain at Station Rochester.
The RB-S crew brought the passenger to shore, where local emergency medical services personnel transported her to a local hospital.
Personnel from U.S. Customs and Border Protection initially received the distress call and passed the information along to the Coast Guard. Federal, state and local agencies on the Great Lakes work closely together in an effort to increase mission effectiveness and expedience.
