5th Coast Guard District News
PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard rescued three people Sunday after their jet ski overturned and floated away a mile east of Fort Monroe on Thimble Shoal.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received a report Sunday that two men last seen on a jet ski were overdue at Paradise Ocean Club in Hampton. The watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Portsmouth and Coast Guard Station Little Creek. Hampton Fire Department launched a response boat crew as well.

A 25-foot Response Boat-Small (RBS) crew from Coast Guard Station Portsmouth located the missing men who had swamped their jet ski before swimming to and climbing on the Thimble Shoal range towers. The jet skiers also picked up an additional male passenger before the incident.

The RBS crew took the three men to Old Point Comfort Marina in Hampton where they were evaluated by awaiting local EMS.

No injuries were reported.
