Coast Guard Station Point Judith crew medically evacuates ill fisherman

WAKEFIELD, R.I. — A U.S. Coast Guard rescue crew medically evacuated an ill crewman from a New Bedford, Mass., fishing vessel near Rhode Island Sound, March 31, 2011.

Coast Guard Sector Southeast New England watchstanders received a report from the captain of fishing vessel Independence that a 45-year old male on board was suffering from stomach pains at approximately 3:05 p.m.

A 47-foot motor life boat crew from Coast Guard Station Point Judith launched immediately to aid the ill man.

The man was transported to emergency medical services wainting at the station at 5 p.m.
