Coast Guard Station Point Allerton medically evacuates injured hiker from Georges Island

BOSTON — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 45-year-old male from Georges Island, Mass., at approximately 4:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Boston received a report at 4:07 p.m. from a Georges Island park ranger of a hiker who had fallen on rocks and was suffering from a leg injury.

A Coast Guard Station Point Allerton, Mass., rescue boat crew immediately launched and safely transported the injured hiker to awaiting EMS at Station Point Allerton. He was then taken by the local EMS to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass.

Units across the 1st Coast Guard District, which extends from New Jersey to the Canadian border, rescued more than 300 people and conducted more than 2,500 search and rescue cases in 2012.
