FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — The Coast Guard, along with members of the Navy and Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, responded to a vessel taking on water with three people aboard Wednesday approximately four miles east of Fernandina Channel, near Fernandina Beach.
Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, Florida, command center were notified of the situation by Nassau County dispatch at approximately 2:45 p.m. The report stated that the blue 73-foot Helen of Troy was taking on water. None of the crew suffered any injuries.
A crew from Coast Guard Station Mayport, Florida, was launched aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium, taking an extra water pump with them. Nassau County Sheriff’s Marine Unit was assisting in the response. A Navy vessel was also incorporated into the response.
The three men were able to dock the vessel at Dee Dee Bartels Nature Center and Fishing Pier under their own power while being escorted by the RBM crew
