Coast Guard Station Kings Point assists 8 people on boat taking on water

1st Coast Guard District NewsNEW YORK – The Coast Guard assisted a distressed 26-foot pleasure craft, today, near Manhasset Bay.

At 12:22 this morning, Coast Guard Sector New York watchstanders received report of a 26-foot pleasure craft taking on water with eight people aboard in Long Island Sound near Manhasset Bay. 

Sector New York issued an urgent marine information broadcast, and launched a rescue boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Kings Point.

The Station Kings Point rescue boatcrew quickly arrived on scene and boarded the vessel. Once aboard, members of the rescue boatcrew noticed the vessel was no longer taking on water.

The rescue boatcrew reported there were no injuries and no signs of pollution, however the vessel had lost their propeller.

The rescue boatcrew placed the vessel in stern tow and brought them back to Brewer Capri Marina in Port Washington, New York, where they conducted a post SAR boarding with no violations.

Brewer Capri Marina staff is handling dewatering and will pull the vessel out of the water.
