Coast Guard Station Jones Beach assists vessel taking on water

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard responded to a report of a 23-foot slick craft taking on water near Jones Beach, Aug. 6, 2014.

At approximately 11:36 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received reports of a 23-foot vessel taking on water near the Jones Beach Needle.

Coast Guard Station Jones Beach launched a rescue boatcrew and quickly arrived on scene with the vessel at approximately 11:54 p.m.

The rescue boatcrew members passed a dewatering pump to the flooding vessel and placed the vessel in tow.

The Station Jones Beach boatcrew towed the vessel back to the Station’s boat basin, where it remained until a commercial tow company arrived for further assistance.
