Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay to hold annual open house

11th Coast Guard District NewsSAMOA, Calif. – Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay has scheduled their annual open house and invites the public to attend Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All community members are invited to visit the facility and meet the crew of their local Coast Guard. Guests will be able to tour the historic building, climb aboard rescue boats and explore a rescue helicopter. Boat and air crews will be available to discuss their missions and will explain how the Coast Guard renders assistance to mariners operating off the dangerous North Coast of California.

Several of the Coast Guard’s local partner agencies will also be available for guests to meet including the Eureka Flotilla of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Marine Division of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Department of Fish and Game.

“The Coast Guard has been located on the North Spit since the 1800’s providing assistance to the maritime community. The open house provides the public an excellent opportunity to come out and see the historic building and meet the fine men and women of today’s Coast Guard,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Jon Gagnon, officer-in-charge Station Humboldt Bay.
