Coast Guard Station Grand Isle assists injured crewmember

NEW ORLEANS – A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Grand Isle transferred an injured crewmember from a shrimp boat Monday at approximately 1:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Bartaria Bay, La.

The Coast Guard received the call from a crewmember aboard the Miss Kelly, a 65-foot shrimp boat, stating a crewmember was working a line when it snapped and hit him above his right eye.

“The crewmember was lying on the galley deck bleeding when we arrived,” said Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Adam Lewis. “I immediately began first aid using gauze and a large bandage and transferred him to our boat.”

The crewmember was transported to the Lady of the Sea General Hospital by Emergency Medical Services.
