Coast Guard Station Charleston rescues injured mariner

d7 logoCHARLESTON, S.C. — Members assigned to Coast Guard Station Charleston, S.C., rescued an injured mariner Friday 14 miles southeast of Charleston Harbor.

According to the report, the 54-year-old man suffered a burn injury while he was aboard the motor vessel Aqua Pearl. Coast Guard Sector Charleston watchstanders briefed a Coast Guard flight surgeon who recommended the mariner be medically evacuated.

Station Charleston crewmembers were launched aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium to embark the patient. Station Charleston crewmembers arrived on scene at 12:02 p.m. They transferred the mariner from his vessel onto the RB-M and transported him back to shore where Emergency Medical Services was standing by.

The mariner was transferred to EMS care at approximately 1:10 p.m. From there, EMS took him to Medical University South Carolina.
