CHANNEL ISLANDS HARBOR, Calif.- Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor will host the 6th Annual Channel Islands Harbor Safe Boating Expo, May 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is open to the public and will feature rescue demonstrations, boat tours, and hands-on exhibits.
The expo will feature:
- Helicopter, fire, and man overboard rescue demonstrations by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Rescue, Ventura County Fire Department, Oxnard Fire and Police Rescue, Channel Islands Harbor Patrol, and the Coast Guard.
- Rides and tours onboard a Coast Guard 41-foot utility boat and the Coast Guard Cutter Blacktip, an 87-foot patrol boat.
- Safety demonstrations of fire extinguishers, flares, water damage control, life jackets, and first aid.
- Free flare inspections and disposal by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad.
- Free vessels safety examinations at the Channel Island Public Boat ramp.
- Information booths and displays by multiple agencies to include Channel Islands National Park, the Red Cross, Navy Sea Cadets, Vessel Assist Ventura, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Weather Service.
