BOSTON – A rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Burlington, Vermont rescued a kayaker in distress on Lake Burlington, Vermont, Tuesday.

Watchstanders at the station received a report from the Ferry Valcour of a distressed kayaker caught in 20-knot winds and rough seas near North Beach.

The ferry was unable to assist because of shallow water and Station Burlington launched a rescue crew aboard a 26-foot response boat small.

The crew arrived on scene, recovered the kayaker, and brought him safely back to Station Burlington.

He did not require any medical treatment.

“He was well prepared and wearing a lifejacket,” said Seaman Zane England, a watchstander at Station Burlington. “We got to him quickly in this case – but in the event of a long search, having the right safety gear is often the difference between life and death.”
