Coast Guard Station Brunswick to host change of command ceremony

Coast Guard Station Brunswick receives new rescue boatBRUNSWICK, Ga. — The crew of Coast Guard Station Brunswick is scheduled to host a change of command Friday at Station Brunswick.

During the ceremony, Senior Chief Petty Officer William G. Bennett III will transfer command to Senior Chief Petty Officer Rudy J. Radakovich as officer in charge.

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition, which formally restates that the continuity of command will be maintained. It is a formal ritual, conducted before the assembled company of the command. It conveys to the officers, enlisted personnel, civilian employees, and auxiliarists of the Coast Guard that although the authority of command is relinquished by one person and is assumed by another, it is still maintained without interruption.

Following the change of command, the unit will host a retirement ceremony for Senior Chief Bennett. Originally from Haines City, Fla., Bennett has served in the Coast Guard for 26 years.
