NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is searching for a 47-year-old man, who reportedly did not return home after fishing with two other men, in the Gulf of Mexico, southeast of South Point Marsh Island.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received an overdue vessel report from Michelle Bergeron at approximately 5 p.m., April 29, 2011, reporting that her husband, Barron Bergeron and two other men, Jory Bourque and Mitchell Broussard, were on a fishing trip aboard a 22-foot blue vessel in the Gulf of Mexico, southeast of South Point Marsh Island, and did not return home.
Bourque was rescued by a Good Samaritan and Broussard was rescued by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
Assets continue to search for Bergeron and include:
- Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon and crew, homeported in Grand Isle, La.
- Coast Guard Cutter Pompano and crew, homeported in Gulfport, Miss.
- A Coast Guard MH65-C rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans
- A Coast Guard HC-144 aircraft and crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center, Mobile. Ala.
- Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries
- Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office
An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) was also issued to mariners to maintain caution in the area.
