JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Coast Guard aircrews are pre-staging at Cecil Field in Jacksonville for post-storm rescue operations following the landfall of Hurricane Gustav.
The Coast Guard has flown 30 Coast Guardsmen to Jacksonville to take five helicopters to the Gulf Coast if the need for post-storm search and rescue is necessary. The majority of the aircrews are from Atlantic City, but they will be augmented by pilots from HITRON.
The Coast Guard has pre-positioned crews and search and rescue assets throughout the Gulf Coast Region and have numerous other Coast Guard units standing by to assist with post-storm rescue and recovery operations as the need arises.
