Coast Guard sets safety zone on Mississippi River

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The U.S. Coast Guard has established a safety zone on the Mississippi River due to imminent danger of vessel wakes over topping the Caruthersville, Mo., city front flood wall.

The safety zone will extend the entire width of the river from mile marker 844 to mile marker 849 for approximately eight days, starting at noon.

Mariners shall not enter into or move within the safety zone unless specifically authorized by the Coast Guard. All concerned mariners may contact the Coast Guard on VHF-FM channel 16 or via telephone at 1-866-777-2784 for more information.
