Coast Guard sets normal port conditions for Philadelphia

5th Coast Guard District NewsPHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard opened the Port of Philadelphia for normal operations at 8:30 p.m. here Sunday.

All waterways are open with the exception of the waters of the Delaware River beginning north of Biles Island.

The Captain of the Port is working closely with the port industry, Army Corps of Engineers, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and local marine law enforcement units to minimize risk as the port returns to normalcy.

Mariners should take caution when transiting the river and bay due to the swift currents and the increased presence of debris and other hazards to navigation. It should also be assumed that all aids to navigation are unreliable until the Coast Guard can verify the location of each aid.

Recreational boaters and operators of vessels made of non-steel material are strongly encouraged to avoid transiting the waterways until tides and debris volume return to normal levels.
