Coast Guard seeks public’s assistance with ongoing search in Mass.

BOSTON — The Coast Guard is conducting a search for a possible missing windsurfer in the vicinity of Castle Island, Mass., Wed., July 28, 2010, and is asking the public for any information that could help.

“We have launched a search for a possible missing windsurfer, but we are asking the public to call if they believe they are missing a windsurf board or have any other information which could help us with the search,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Jonathan Cole, an operations unit controller at the First Coast Guard District Command Center in Boston. “We are hoping someone’s board just blew away from the beach, but we are treating this as a possible search and rescue case.”

The board has not been found but a Good Samaritan reported a clear and neon green windsurf sail to Coast Guard Sector Boston around 8:25 p.m. The sail has the words Super Nova II written on it.

A Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod and boat crews from Coast Guard stations Boston and Point Allerton are searching the vicinity of Castle Island and Boston Harbor.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the First District Command Center at 617-223-8555.
