Coast Guard seeks help for missing kayakers near Maine

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine- The Coast Guard seeks help from the public for any leads in a case of two missing kayakers last seen leaving Peaks Island, Maine, around 1:30 p.m., today.

Missing are: Irena McEntee, 18, and Carissa Ireland, 20.

Both were last seen in 12-foot, greenish-blue kayaks headed to Ram’s Island.

The Coast Guard diverted a 25-foot boat crew from Station South Portland to start searching the area, but so far they have found no signs of the paddlers.

A Falcon jet crew and Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod are enroute to help with the search as well as Coast Guard Cutter Campbell, a 270-foot cutter based in Kittery, Maine.

“We are reaching out to the community tonight, hoping for some leads to help with the search,” said Lt. Lis Ceraolo, command duty officer, Coast Guard Sector Northern New England. “Anyone with infomation about the case should call us at 207-767-0303.”

Both kayakers were wearing life jackets, one red and one blue.

Currently the water is 46F with winds around 15 miles per hour and seas about one foot.
