Coast Guard seeks assistance from public to identify suspect vessel

CLEVELAND – U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) commenced an investigation of an incident involving a Scarab-type boat operating at a high rate of speed between the lower Niagara River near Niagara Falls, N.Y. and Lake Ontario in the vicinity of Youngstown, N.Y. at approximately 6 p.m. July 5, 2009.

The 40 to 50-foot vessel maneuvered within several feet of nearby recreational boats and failed to stop for Coast Guard small response boats displaying law enforcement blue lights.

CGIS requests assistance from any person who took video or photographs of the incident.
