Coast Guard Seeking Information on Possible Kayaking Accident

BOSTON – The Coast Guard is urgently seeking information about an adrift and overturned kayak found today near Plum Island, and Ipswitch Bay, Mass.

The 13-foot kayak was located by a boater about about noon today. A 47-foot motor life boat from Coast Guard Station Merrimack River and an H-60 helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod are underway searching for anyone in distress.

The orange Keowee II brand kayak has serial number WEM29386ES9S and has a black nylon rope tied to its bow.

Anyone with information about this kayak should urgently call Coast Guard Sector Boston at (617) 223-3201 or via marine radio channel 16.

“We are very concerned that someone may have been kayaking and is now in distress,” said Lt. Patrick Petraca of the First Coast Guard District’s Command Center. “Until we can determine that whoever was out on this boat is safe we will continue to treat this as a boater in distress.”
