ST. LOUIS — Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River is partnering with other government agencies to spread awareness of the importance of safe boating and wearing proper personal flotation devices.

This year National Safe Boating Week is Saturday through May 24. The campaign promotes safe and responsible boating and the value of consistent life jacket wear by recreational boaters.

“Educating boaters on the safe practices of recreational boating is a priority,” said Capt. Scott Stoermer, captain of the port at Sector Upper Mississippi River. “We encourage everyone to stay safe and to wear personal floatation devices when operating on America’s waterways. Especially as more people turn to our waters for recreation, we want everyone who goes out to spend a day on the water to come home.”
