Coast Guard Sector San Diego medevacs passenger from cruise ship Carnival Inspiration

SAN DIEGO – An aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego conducted a medical evacuation for a passenger who was suffering from symptoms of appendicitis aboard a cruise ship approximately 35 miles southwest of San Diego, Sunday morning.

The crew of the Carnival Inspiration contacted the Coast Guard at 7:15 a.m., requesting a medevac for the 34-year-old man.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Sector San Diego and flew to the cruise ship’s location.

Once on scene, the aircrew hoisted the man into the aircraft and transported him to Sector San Diego.

The man was transferred to emergency medical personnel at approximately 10:20 a.m.
