Coast Guard Sector San Diego aircrew medevacs ailing fisherman

SAN DIEGO — A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew medically evacuated an ailing 71-year old man from a fishing boat approximately 30 miles south of San Diego, Tuesday.

The crew of the 56-foot commercial fishing vessel Seeker contacted the Coast Guard at 11:56 a.m., requesting assistance for the U.S. citizen after he began experiencing heart attack-like symptoms and collapsed, possibly suffering an injury.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Coast Guard Sector San Diego and flew to the Seeker’s location. The crew hoisted the man and transported the him to Sector San Diego, where he was transferred to emergency medical personnel for further care at 2:52 p.m.
