SAN DIEGO — A Coast Guard Sector San Diego aircrew medically evacuated a passenger experiencing abdominal pain and vomiting aboard a cruise ship nearly 60 miles southwest of Point Loma, Thursday afternoon.

The captain of the cruise ship Carnival Inspiration contacted the Coast Guard at 12:57 p.m., requesting a medevac for the 26-year-old woman.

Coast Guard Sector San Diego dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to hoist the woman from the ship and transport her back to Sector San Diego.

Emergency medical personnel met the aircrew and transported the ailing passenger to a local hospital.

“One of the reasons I joined the Coast Guard was to help people,” said Lt. Cmdr. Daniel Comunale, one of the helicopter pilots from the flight. “I’m proud to serve my fellow Americans in this way.”
