Coast Guard Sector Northern New England participates Veteran’s Day Parades

PORTLAND, Maine – More than 100 Sector & Auxiliary personnel including Capt. James McPherson, commander of Coast Guard Sector Northern New England, joined Mayor Tom Coward, and area Veterans organizations in the South Portland Veteran’s Day Parade Nov. 11, 2010.

Coast Guard Station South Portland and Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team South Portland towed an array of Coast Guard boats in the parade.

Capt. McPherson made remarks during the ceremony and paid tribute to all veterans while acknowledging the Coast Guard men and women currently standing the watch as well as those that would return to duties such as search and rescue, maritime security, and communications watches immediately following the event.

Leading up to Veterans Day, Sector members worked with schools to support their Veterans Day programs and talk about the history of Veterans Day.

The Sector also participated in parades in Belfast, Bangor, Bar Harbor, and Ellsworth.
