Coast Guard Sector New York holds change of command ceremony

NEW YORK — Coast Guard Sector New York held a change of command ceremony at Fort Wadsworth, N.Y., today.

Rear Adm. Linda Fagan, who took command of Sector New York, as well as becoming Captain of the Port of New York and New Jersey, in June 2010, was relieved of her duties and responsibilities by Capt. Gordon Loebl. Loebl has served as Chief of the Office of Quality Assurance and Traveling Inspections at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C., since 2008.

Fagan will transfer to the Northern Command in Colorado Springs, Colo., where she will be assigned as the Deputy Director of Operations.

Sector New York is the largest operational field command in the Coast Guard. With more than 700 active duty personnel and 300 reservists, the Sector is charged with maritime safety, security and stewardship for the Port of New York and New Jersey, as well as the Hudson River.

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored naval tradition, which formally acknowledges the transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another.
