MIAMI – A change-of-command ceremony is scheduled for the commander of Coast Guard Sector Miami, at 10 a.m. Friday, June 25th at BSU Miami.
Coast Guard Capt. James O. Fitton, Sector Miami Commander, will relinquish command to Capt. Christopher P. Scraba during a time-honored military tradition that formally transfers command.
A military unit’s change of command is a transfer of total responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another.
Scraba, a native of Putnam, Conn., graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., in 1985 with a degree in Government. He also holds a master’s degree in Public Administration and National Security and Strategic Studies.
He will assume the responsibilities and authorities of Captain of the Port, Search-and-Rescue Mission Coordinator, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, Officer in Charge of Marine Inspection and Federal On-Scene Coordinator. He will lead one of the busiest and most dynamic commands in the Coast Guard.
Fitton, who has been in command since June 2008, will be retiring after 32 years of active duty service.
Coast Guard Sector Miami personnel are responsible for all aspects of safety, security and stewardship of the marine environment along the southeast coast of Florida.
