LOS ANGELES — Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach is scheduled to hold a change-of-command ceremony Tuesday, June 3, at 10 a.m., at Coast Guard Base Los Angeles-Long Beach, located at 1001 South Seaside Ave in San Pedro, Calif.
During the ceremony, Capt. James Jenkins will transfer command to Capt. Jennifer Williams. Rear Adm. Karl Schultz, Commander of the 11th Coast Guard District, will preside over the ceremony.
Jenkins served as Commander of Sector LA-LB since May 2012, and will be reporting as the Chief of Staff for the Coast Guard’s 14th District in Honolulu.
Williams is currently serving as the Deputy Sector Commander of Sector LA-LB. She has also served as the Chief of the Foreign and Offshore Vessel Compliance Division at Coast Guard Headquarters; as a Marine Inspector, Senior Investigating Officer, and Chief of Inspection and Prevention Department Head at various Coast Guard units.
The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored military tradition and deeply rooted in Coast Guard and Naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command. The ceremony is attended by all members of the unit so they all witness the transfer of leadership.
