Coast Guard, Seattle Fire Department, good samaritan respond to boat fire

Pacific Northwest Coast Guard NewsSEATTLE — The U.S. Coast Guard, Seattle Fire Department and a good samaritan responded Saturday afternoon to a boat fire south of Blake Island, Wash.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received a call reporting that a 36-foot recreational boat had caught fire. A good samaritan immediately responded and retrieved three people and a dog from the boat. Both the good Samaritan and the owner of the boat controlled the flames utilizing fire extinguishers but reported that the vessel was still smoldering. A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station Seattle and the fireboat Leschi from Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene.

The crew from the fireboat Leschi inspected the vessel and cleared it to be moved. The vessel was reported to have approximately 400 gallons of diesel fuel on board but there was no evidence of pollution and the current condition of the boat posed no immediate threat. The owner of the boat then contracted a tow back to port.
