Coast Guard searching for young swimmer off Hampton Beach

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a 12-year old girl off the coast of Hampton Beach, N.H., May 30, 2011.

The Hampton Fire Department notified the Coast Guard around 8 p.m., that the girl and her older brother were swept out to sea by a rip tide.

The fire department rescued the brother, but Coast Guard and fire department crews are still searching for the young girl.

Currently a Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, a 25-foot boat crew from Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor and a 47-foot boat crew from Coast Guard Station Merrimack River are searching for the girl.

The on scene weather is calm seas with three mile-per-hour winds, and fog with one mile of visibility. The water temperature is 55 degrees.
