Coast Guard Searching for Two Sailors Missing off Bermuda

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard is searching the Atlantic Ocean 270 miles north of Bermuda for two sailors who fell into the water while transiting from their sailboat to a motor vessel in storm packing 40-knot winds and seas of more than 30-feet tonight.

The missing sailors, transiting from Long Island, N.Y., to Bermuda, were attempting transfer from their 42-foot sailboat Albatross to the nearby motor vessel Martorell, a 645-foot Panamanian flagged Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue (AMVER) when they entered the water.

A Coast Guard C-130 rescue crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., and the Martorell are on scene and conducting search patterns.

The two missing sailors were reportedly wearing life jackets when they entered the water.
