Coast Guard Searching for Two Sailboats

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard is searching for the 54-foot sailboat Meltemi with four people aboard after the wife of one of the passengers notified the Coast Guard when they failed to report their location.

The sailboat departed from Rebel Marina on Willoughby Bay in Norfolk, Va., Wednesday en route to an undisclosed location in Florida. The reporting source indicates the vessel was supposed to call Thursday. The call was never made.

Missing are Ed Ball and John Sullivan. Names of the remaining two crewmembers are unknown at this time.

A Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City based C-130 Hercules launched at 7:05 a.m. today to search for the vessel. The search has spanned from the coast of Virginia to Jacksonville, Fla.

In addition, the Coast Guard is searching for a 30-foot sailboat with two people aboard that departed from Lewes Harbor Marina in Lewes, Del., Nov. 30, at 10 a.m. The vessel was destined for Panama and was supposed to check in on Sunday, Dec. 2. The sail boat never checked in.

Missing are Rock Argyle, and Paul Shore.
