NEW ORLEANS — Coast Guard rescue crews are searching for a 50-year-old Hispanic male in Lake Pontchatrain near Bayou St. John, Sunday evening.
Missing is Telesford Chavez-Lopez, who was last seen wearing black jeans.
Coast Guard watchstanders received a report that Chavez-Lopez was seen swimming in the lake with his family when he was seen going under around 4:30 p.m.
A Coast Guard Station New Orleans 29-foot Response Boat—Small crew and a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew conducted searches for Chavez-Lopez. The RB—S crew will continue to search for him throughout the night.
“Coast Guard air and surface assets quickly responded and conducted solid initial searches for the missing swimmer,” said Lt. Sharon Mezulis, command duty officer with Coast Guard Sector New Orleans. “Station New Orleans will stay on scene throughout the night continuing efforts to locate Mr. Chavez-Lopez.”
Coast Guard response crews are working with New Orleans Police Department responders searching for Chavez-Lopez.
A helicopter crew is scheduled to conduct a first light search in the morning.
