Coast Guard searching for swimmer in Isabela, Puerto Rico

Coast Guard District 7 NewsSAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard rescue crews are searching Tuesday for a missing swimmer in waters off Punta Jacinto just east of Jobos Beach in Isabela, Puerto Rico.

Missing is 21-year-old man, who was last seen struggling in the heavy surf. Three people reportedly jumped into the water to rescue the swimmer, however, they were unable to reach him due to the heavy surf in the area.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Juan received a call from a 911 emergency operator at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, who relayed the report from a bystander at the beach.

Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Borinquen, Aguadilla, were launched Tuesday and the aircrews onboard are currently searching for the missing swimmer, alongside local emergency responders and Puerto Police Joint Forces of Rapid Action maritime units.
