The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a surfer reported missing off Pipeline on O’ahu’s North Shore.
Lt. Brian Murphy said a Coast Guard helicopter from the Barbers Point Air Station has completed two searches of ocean waters near Pipeline and was preparing to undertake a third search.
The helicopter has been searching for the missing surfer, believed to be in his mid-30s, since his girlfriend reported him missing about 11:15 p.m. Thursday night.
In addition to the helicopter, the Coast Guard’s 87-foot cutter, the Ahi, arrived on scene about 4 a.m. this morning.
Honolulu firefighters and the Fire Department’s helicopter are expected to resume their search for the missing surfer “at first light,” Murphy said.
