SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Coast Guard searched the Casco Bay, Maine, area for the source of a red flare reported by three different people at about 5:25 p.m., Sunday.

A 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station South Portland, Maine, and a Falcon jet crew from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., searched.

An operator of the ferry Islander reported the flare to Coast Guard Sector Northern New England, as well as someone on Little John Island and another person on Willard Beach.

“We’re asking anyone who may have more information on the flare to call the sector command center at (207) 767-0302,” said Lt. Lisa Ceraolo of Sector Northern New England.
