ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Rescuers from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka and Sitka Mountain Rescue are actively searching for an overdue snowmobiler near Harbor Mountain northeast of Sitka.
The man was out snowmobiling with friends Saturday and broke away from the group. When he did not return several hours later they notified the Sitka Mountain Search and Rescue.
The Coast Guard was called in to provide air support. An HH-60 Jayhawk crew from Sitka with three Sitka Mountain Rescue members onboard sighted what appeared to be one set of snowmobile tracks leading into an avalanche area that looked to be freshly triggered. There were no tracks exiting the area.
A Coast Guard Jayhawk is currently airborne in the area with Sitka Mountain Rescue members onboard to continue the search.
