Coast Guard searching for possible vessel in distress in Casco Bay

BOSTON — The Coast Guard is searching for a possible vessel in distress in Casco Bay, Maine, Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England, in Portland, Maine, received a distress call at approximately 4:40 p.m. Saturday from an unknown source. Radio direction-finding equipment indicated the call was made from a position in Casco Bay, approximately one mile east of Jewell Island, Maine.

Two 47-foot Motor Life Boat crews from Coast Guard Station South Portland, Maine, and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., were immediately launched.

 
Currently searching are crews from:

  • Coast Guard Station South Portland
  • Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod
  • Coast Guard Cutter Jefferson Island
