Coast Guard searching for possible person in water after unmanned paddleboat found off St. Augustine

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Coast Guard crews are searching for a possible person or people in the water after receiving a report of an unmanned yellow paddleboat floating 57 miles east of St. Augustine, Florida, Monday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center received the report from the cruise ship Carnival Fantasy at approximately 9 a.m.

Command center personnel issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a Coast Guard helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Georgia, around 9:15 a.m. to search.

Members assigned to Coast Guard Station Mayport in Jacksonville launched a 45- foot Response Boat- Medium at 9:13 a.m. to search.

Anyone who recognizes the paddleboat in the pictures below or has any information about a missing paddleboat is urged to contact the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center at 904-564-7511.
