Coast Guard searching for possible missing kayaker off Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

MIAMI – Coast Guard crews are searching for a possible missing kayaker approximately two miles northeast of the Port Everglades Inlet in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Thursday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Miami Command Center received a report from a good Samaritan of an overturned white kayak off the Port Everglades Inlet at approximately 4:45 p.m.

An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami and a Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale 41-foot rescue boat crew were immediately launched to search for the overturned kayak and any possible people in distress.

The kayak is described as being a Cobra-brand kayak, approximately 10-feet in length and white with the words, “Dana Point Marina” on it.

If anyone has information about a possible missing kayaker they are asked to call Coast Guard Sector Miami at 305-535-4472.
