SAN DIEGO – Coast Guard crews are searching for possible mariners in distress in the vicinity of Point Loma, Sunday.
At around 2 p.m., Customs and Border Protection requested Coast Guard assistance in a search for a green and white vessel after receiving a collect call from someone aboard the boat reporting it was taking on water.
The boat is reported to have five people aboard.
A CBP boat crew, a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew are searching the area.
The Coast Guard has also issued an urgent marine broadcast to mariners, urging mariners in the area to keep a lookout for the mariners.
Due to the report coming from a collect call, rescue crews have been unable to call the person for more information.
