Coast Guard searching for person in the water off Waikiki

KittiwakeHONOLULU — The Coast Guard is searching for a person in the water approximately one mile off Waikiki.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center received notification from the Honolulu Police Department at 8:50 p.m., of a 19-year-old male who went missing while swimming to shore from a floating flotilla near Waikiki Walls.

The man was last seen at approximately 4:50 p.m. before failing to meet up with a friend ashore. He was last seen wearing black shorts with a pink floatie.

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew and 25-foot Response-Boat Small crew from Coast Guard Station Honolulu are searching. Also searching are Coast Guard Cutter Kittiwake, an 87-foot coastal patrol boat, and Coast Guard Cutter Galveston Island, a 110-foot patrol boat both homeported in Honolulu, and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point.

Weather conditions on scene are winds of approximately 15 mph and seas of 3 feet.
